توضیحات

Although facts of biography say that Kierkegaard is a nineteenth century thinker, he had no impact whatever on that century’s thought. And prompted though his writings were by a rejection of prevailing moral and intellectual patterns, as far as their influence on those patterns was concerned they might have been published on another planet, The fact alone that Kierkegaard wrote exclusively in Danish prevented the spread of his ideas beyond Scandinavia in his lifetime. Besides, Denmark itself, as he often complained, was a cultural backwater; the chances of his work having any influence even there were remote. But there is also the fact that Kierkegaard’s thought was at its time genuinely innovative, just too novel for its implications to be immediately appreciated even beyond the limited horizons of Copenhagen’s intelligentsia. The purpose of this series (The Arguments of he Philosophers) is to provide a contemporary assessment and history of the entire course of philosophical thought. Each book constitutes a detailed, critical introduction to the work of a philosopher of major influence and significance.
