A critical analysis of the literature data shows that infection by freshwater pearl mussel glochidia neither influences the duration of the freshwater period in the life of Atlantic salmon nor the lifecycle of this fish. Neither does such an infection affect or worsen the health of Atlantic salmon. There are no experimental data on the symbiosis of pearl mussel and salmon.
