Description
An 8-year-old male Doberman was presented with a unilateral enlarged mass on its left upper eyelid. Neoplasia was suspected, and a series of diagnostic tests were carried out. Unrecognizable cells were seen in a fine needle aspiration that resembled a neoplastic lesion. The mass was resected from the base with some of underlying tissue, and several samples were obtained for histopathologic examination. Histopathologically, the tumoral mass was composed of a solid growth of irregular islands and trabeculae of basaloid reserve cells, interspersed with fewer sebocytes. The basaloid cells showed moderate mitotic activity. Based on clinical and histopathological findings, meibomian gland epithelioma was diagnosed. This is the first reported case of meibomian epithelioma in dogs.
