مایکروسافت اکسل (Microsoft Office Excel) برنامه صفحات گسترده‌ است که اطلاعات در آن به صورت عددی و حروفی تقسیم‌بندی، سازمان‌بندی و مرتب می شوند. از اکسل علاوه بر سازماندهی، برای نگهداری و پردازش داده‌ها و رسم چارت (نمودار) نیز استفاده می‌شود. در واقع مایکروسافت اکسل دارای خصوصیات اصلی تمام نرم‌افزارهای صفحه‌گسترده است که در محیط ان با استفاده از جدولی متشکل از ردیف‌ها و ستون‌ها می‌توان، داده‌ها و اطلاعات را سازماندهی نموده و همچنین به انجام محاسبات، رسم توابع و نمودارها و تجزیه و تحلیل آماری اطلاعات پرداخت. یکی از بهترین ابزار های گزارش گیری در اکسل ابزار PivotTable می باشد. PivotTable را در ترجمه جداول محوری یا جداول لولایی می گویند. جداول محوری به شما کمک می کند تا از میان انبوهی از اطلاعات به نتایج دلخواه خود دست یابید.
