MSC Nastran یکی از پر استفاده ترین نرم افزار های تحلیل المان ها و عناصر محدود است. این نرم افزار کمک کرد که کمپانی MSC Software در سال 2011 به ده کمپانی نرم افزاری اصلی بپیوندد. این نرم افزار جهت تحلیل المان ها و عناصر محدود، مخصوصا تحلیل های مربوط به سیستم های دینامیکی، به کاربرده می شود. این نرم افزار به صورت گرافیکی یک مدل را ایجاد نمی کند ولی به وسیله نرم افزارهای مختلف به عنوان یک پایه خروجی های آن مورد استفاده قرار گرفته و اشکال گرافیکی توسط آن ها استخراج می شود. ورودی و خروجی این نرم افزار به صورت فایل متنی می باشد. این نرم افزار در ترکیب با نرم افزار Patran می تواند کارهای خوبی انجام دهد.
این نرم افزار به صورت Command prompt است و ظاهر گرافیکی ندارد. فایل ورودی را گرفته و در فضای Command عملیات را روی آن انجام داده و خروجی می دهد. همچنین این نرم افزار توسط نرم افزار Catia مورد استفاده قرار می گیرد.
